India's Supreme Court Says It Can Review Clemency Decision Based On Religion

India's Supreme Court on Wednesday held that the courts can review the exercise of clemency by the president or governor. In Epuru Sudhakar & Anr. v. Government of Andhra Pradesh & Ors., the court said that it should overturn a clemency decision where religion, sex, race, political loyalty or caste was the basis for the decision.
