Today's New York Times carries a long investigative article starting on its front page titled Hezbollah Seeks to Marshal the Piety of the Young. It says in part:
At a time of religious revival across the Islamic world, intense piety among the young is nothing unusual. But in Lebanon, Hezbollah — the name means the party of God — has marshaled these ambient energies for a highly political project: educating a younger generation to continue its military struggle against Israel. Hezbollah’s battlefield resilience has made it a model for other militant groups across the Middle East, including Hamas. And that success is due, in no small measure, to the party’s extraordinarily comprehensive array of religion-themed youth and recruitment programs.

Imagine that. A political machine exploiting the naive uninformed enthusiasm of youth to further a radical cause. Unthinkable.
What cracks me up about this is how they've modeled their youth program on the Boy Scouts.
I suspect that says as much about the Scouts as it does about Hezbollah.

Absolutely correct. In fact I can't believe the Boy Scouts still are allowed to exist given the 100 year reign of terror they are responsible for. I'm sure that's why Hezbollah is using their model. TSA is finally starting to profile Scouts at airports and I hear the FBI is monitoring some of their campouts suspected of being terrorist training sessions.
AA, you are amazing. What's the matter. Did a Scout steal your girlfriend in Jr High or something?
Anon, I was going to write that a Scout stole my boyfriend but that would be too insulting to homosexuals.
I don't know about any terrorist training sessions but they do have one thing in common you would expect an Atheist to protest. Neither accepts us.
So I repeat, the fact the Hezbollah Scouts model themselves after the Boy scouts says as much about the Boy Scouts as it does about Hezbollah (and says much more about being an Atheist).
