The New York Assembly on Tuesday
passed, by a vote of 89-52,
A07732, a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage. The bill also provides that no member of the clergy is required to solemnize a marriage. The bill now goes to the state Senate where, according to
NY1 News, it is unclear whether it will pass. Tuesday's
New York Times says that conservative religious groups are mobilizing to fight against passage of the bill.
