As the Royal Wedding approaches in Britain, the
London Telegraph reports that the Church of England has blocked government efforts to obtain repeal of the 1701
Act of Settlement which bars heirs to the throne from marrying Catholics. The British sovereign is also Supreme Governor of the Church of England. If a future heir marries a Catholic, canon law would require their children to be raised as Catholics. That in turn could result in a Catholic Supreme Governor of the Anglican Church. (See
