The
New York Times reported yesterday that the Parliament of Papua New Guinea has taken action to deter the wave of violence, torture and killing that has been directed at individuals accused of sorcery. Parliament voted to repeal the
1971 Sorcery Act and also expanded the death penalty for a number of crimes including rape, robbery and murder. The new law allows execution by lethal injection, asphyxiation, firing squad and electrocution.
