A settlement has been reached in a suit by a Texas high school student who objected on religious grounds to wearing a Smart ID badge containing an RFID chip. The student's father claimed that wearing the badge would be the mark of the beast, and he had religious objections to the school tracking his daughter. (See
prior posting.) According to today's
San Antonio Express News, Andrea Hernandez' magnet school has decided to drop the use of RFID badges. Under the settlement, Hernandez will now be allowed to return to the school.
