Senate Rejects Obama's Nominee To Head DOJ Civil Rights Division
Yesterday, the U.S. Senate rejected President Obama's nominee for Assistant Attorney General to head the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice-- Debo Adegbile. Politico reports that several Senate Democrats joined Republicans in the 47-52 vote against cloture that had the effect of defeating the nomination. Adegbile was opposed by law enforcement groups and some senators because of his previous work with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund in helping the convicted killer of a Philadelphia police officer try to overturn his death sentence.
