The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday denied certiorari in
Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Baton Rouge v. Mayeux, (Docket No. 14-220, cert. denied 1/20/2015) (
Order List). In the case, the Louisiana Supreme Court held that a trial court could decide whether a communication between a teenager and a priest over the 14-year old's romantic relationship with a parishioner amounted to a confession regardless of the Church's characterization of the communication. (See
prior posting.) The Baton Rouge
Advocate reports on the denial of review.
