On Friday, a court in India imposed sentences on the 24 defendants who
were convicted earlier this month in the 2002 killings of 69 Muslims during religious riots in Gujarat state.
AFP reports that eleven of the Hindu defendants were sentenced to life in prison for their part in the massacre at the Gulbarg Society housing complex. The court sentenced twelve others to seven years in jail, and the remaining defendant to ten years for rioting and arson.
