CNN Wire reports that Ohio Gov. John Kasich signed a bill into law last Friday that bans the commonly used dilation and evacuation (D&E) procedure for abortions (
Sub. S.B. 145). The new law labels such abortions "dismemberment abortions". Meanwhile, Kasich vetoed a bill that would have banned abortions where the fetus has a detectable heartbeat-- generally at 6 weeks of gestation. (
Sub. H.B. 258). A
press release from the Governor's office reports on the actions.
