Tunisia Bans Niqab In Government Buildings

Tunisia's Prime Minister yesterday signed a government circular banning the niqab, which covers the entire face except for the eyes, from government  offices.  As reported by  France24, this comes as part of efforts to heighten security after a double suicide bombing last month. The government fears that the niqab will be used as a disguises for terrorists.

Tunisian Court Rejects Imams' Challenge To LGBTQ Radio Station

Slate reports on a Feb. 14 decision by a court in Tunisia dismissing a lawsuit filed by a union representing imams.  The suit asked the court to request the Tunisian Internet Agency to block access to the online LGBTQ radio station Shams Rad.  Petitioners argued that the station threatens "social and family values."  The court ruled that the union lacks standing to bring the suit, and that the radio station had not violated the rights of others.

Tunisian Authorities Closing Down Restaurants During Ramadan

Al-Monitor reported yesterday that in Tunisia, for the fourth year in a row police are conducting raids forcing restaurants to close down during Ramadan.  It is unclear what legal authority they have to take this action, though some are pointing to  a circular issued in 1981 by the Prime Minister and canceled two days later by the head of state.
