Canada's Supreme Court Hears Arguments In Ecclesiastical Abstention Case
On Nov. 2, the Supreme Court of Canada heard oral argument (video of full oral arguments) in Judicial Committee of the Highwood Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses v. Wall. Links to the briefs of the parties and a number of intervenors are also available online. ReligiousLiberty.tv reports on the case. In the case, the Alberta Court of Appeals in a 2-1 decision held that Canadian civil courts have jurisdiction to review a formal decision by a Jehovah's Witness congregation to disfellowship one of its members.
